What Happens at a Psilocybin Retreat? A First-Timer's Guide

So, you're curious about a psilocybin retreat. Maybe you've done some research, talked to a friend who's had an incredible experience, or simply have a feeling that this is something you'd like to explore.

But what actually happens at one of these retreats? Are you sitting around in a circle? Is everyone talking about their feelings? What if you've never tried psilocybin before?

Good questions. Let's walk through it.

What Actually Happens at a Psilocybin Retreat?

First, a psilocybin retreat isn't just about taking psilocybin. The experience is part of it, of course, but there's quite a bit more that goes into making a retreat meaningful.

At Divinae Retreats, we bring small groups of people together in comfortable settings for a few days of connection, exploration, and personal discovery.

There's time to get to know one another, learn about the experience, set intentions, and prepare for your journey. Then there's the psilocybin experience itself, followed by time to reflect, process, and figure out what it all means for you.

And no, you don't have to share your deepest secrets with a room full of strangers.

What Should I Expect at My First Guided Psilocybin Experience?

We don't just hand you psilocybin and wish you luck!

Before your retreat, we'll get to know you through a screening process that helps determine whether psilocybin is appropriate for you. We'll also help you understand what to expect and how to prepare.

During your journey, experienced facilitators are there to support you. Whether you're feeling curious, emotional, peaceful, or a little overwhelmed, you won't be navigating the experience alone.

Our job isn't to tell you what to experience. It's to create a supportive environment where you can have your own experience, whatever that looks like.

How Long Does a Psilocybin Retreat Last?

Most Divinae retreats take place over three days, although some are a little longer.

Here's the general idea:

  • Day One: Get settled. Meet your fellow participants, connect with your facilitators, and spend time preparing for your journey. Think education, conversation, intention-setting, and getting comfortable.

  • Day Two: The journey. This is the day of your guided psilocybin experience. You'll have dedicated time for the journey itself, followed by rest and reflection.

  • Day Three: Make sense of it all. We'll spend time talking about integration—how to take what you've experienced and bring any meaningful insights into your everyday life.

There's a thoughtful rhythm to the retreat, but plenty of room to simply be.

Do I Need Previous Experience With Psychedelics?

Absolutely not.

Some of our participants have previous experience with psilocybin. Others are brand new to it. Both are welcome, provided the screening process determines that participation is appropriate.

You don't need to be an expert, have a big spiritual awakening planned, or even know exactly why you're interested.

It's perfectly fine to show up with curiosity and a few questions. That's a pretty good place to start.

What Does a Psilocybin Journey Actually Feel Like?

This is the million-dollar question, and the answer is different for everyone.

Some people experience vivid imagery, deep emotions, unexpected memories, or a powerful sense of connection. Others have quieter, more introspective experiences.

And yes, sometimes things can get uncomfortable. Psilocybin can bring up difficult emotions, anxiety, or physical sensations like nausea. That's one reason why screening, preparation, and having experienced support matter.

One thing we always want people to understand: You don't have to have some earth-shattering revelation for your experience to be meaningful.

Sometimes the biggest insights are surprisingly simple. And sometimes they don't become clear until days or weeks later.

What Happens When the Retreat Is Over?

You go home. But hopefully, you don't just go back to business as usual without giving your experience another thought.

That's where integration comes in.

Integration is simply the process of making sense of what you experienced and figuring out what, if anything, you'd like to carry forward.

Maybe you gained a new perspective on a relationship. Maybe you recognized a pattern in your life. Or maybe you just have more questions than when you started.

All of that is worth exploring.

At Divinae, integration is part of the retreat experience, and we offer opportunities to stay connected and continue that work afterward.

Curious? Let's Talk.

At Divinae Retreats, we believe these experiences deserve thoughtful preparation, knowledgeable facilitators, and a setting where people feel comfortable being themselves.

Our retreats are intentionally small, personal, and designed to give you room to explore at your own pace.

If you've been wondering whether a psilocybin retreat might be right for you, we'd love to help you learn more.
